Saying farewell to two wonderful schools by looking at their history and future!
As the 2025-2026 school year inches towards its end, 2 memorable events were held at the schools that would be merging into one in the Fall. The long-awaited Restigouche River School will be ready for occupancy at the start of the next school year. While the excitement for its beginning is palpable, it was remarkable how the history and meaning of the Lord Beaverbrook School (grades 1-6) and the Campbellton Middle School (once the Campbellton Composite High School) were being left with reminders of their history, their importance in the community and their influence on the generations who were fortunate enough to grace their doors to learning and friendships.

School officials, teachers and students led the events, well attended by representatives from Campbellton and Listuguj, current and retired teachers, administrators, parents and former students who had attended the schools (including the children and babies in their charge). The breadth of the audience – a testimony to the influence and importance of our schools.

Can you name any of these familiar faces from the past?

At the end of the โofficialโ ceremony, cake was served to the audience.

Ceremonies were held at both closing schools to mark the end and the beginning.
Students returned to their classrooms to โmanโ the displays of history they had created. So impressive they were and so proud the students were of their work! Needless to say, we observers were very appreciative of what they had done – some of us having to consciously curtail our impulses to dance to the music of our youthful eras. It was delightful to engage in conversations with our guides through the eras. This proved to be a highlight of the event giving focus to the history while allowing engagement with the students and others who had come to mark the end, and to celebrate the promise of a new beginning.

Well Done Lord Beaverbrook and Campbellton Middle School!
