It was almost too hot on Thursday, June 11 when the Restigouche retired teachers made their way to The Heron’s Nest Cottages in Charlo. But lo and behold, the cool breezes from the Bay of Chaleur re-energized them for the last gathering before summer holidays. What better way to transition to summer than a barbecue. And what a lovely occasion it proved to be.

In attendance were special guests Roma LeMesurier and Donna Savoie who were just days away from retirement. . .
The afternoon event began with refreshments on the front lawn overlooking the bay. While sipping their beverages members mingled and chatted, getting caught up on one another’s lives and questioning the soon to be retirees on their plans for retirement. Chatting was only slightly curtailed once the picnic table was totally overtaken with appetizers.
While munching, some watched rivals play “washer toss” while others were drawn to one another or to the magnetism of a 2-month old baby, his Mom and her Mom, retired teacher Jane Caldwell. Leave it to a baby to steal the show – especially among teachers.

The main event – the barbecue: Allan Hayes (who apparently does NOT barbecue at home) and Pat Taylor were recruited to barbecue the burgers, while Micheline Day supervised, ensuring that the A& W burgers got flipped once only! In the meantime, Wellness Hostess Joanne Currie cooked the salmon in the oven as many hands filled the table beside her with an impressive array of delicious salads, matched again later with an equally enticing table full of irresistible desserts. What a fabulous feast!!
Such a well orchestrated event with contributions by so many. Many thanks to Director Joanne Currie, a very skilled planner, and to all those who contributed with their appetizers, salads and desserts. And to all – thank you for being there to make it such a special afternoon.
